How do you go from Opera Singer to Programmer to Product Manager in 10,350 days or less? Good question. Above is a fun little infographic — followed by its story — on how I landed on this visualization of my career roadmap.
Two weeks ago at a local gathering of product peeps otherwise known as ProductCampRTP, I was asked: “How do you get from opera singing to product management?”
Good question, too bad my answer was a lot of tell and no show.
Then last weekend, while biking, I got to thinking about this question as it comes up often. When I present at BarCamps. When I got to Meetups. When I visit the In-Laws. When I’m on a job interview.
I think it was at about the 18-mile marker on the American Tobacco Trail when it hit me “What if I treat high-level conversations about my career development the same way I articulate high-level product roadmaps?”
So this weekend? I created this visualization to help map out my journey, and if we’re lucky, spare us all 1,000 words or so.
And as always, I’m very open to constructive criticisms, suggestions, and even questions about topics such as ERP, Lean, Search, Marketing Ops, Bl, DevOps, Mobile, CMS, Agile, APIs, CRM, CMMS, Analytics, UX, SaaS, Medical Devices, Big Data, loT, Cloud, Biometric ID, GIS, Campaigns, Presentations, Personas, Mentoring … or even Opera Singing.
And as always, some (almost) useful URLs:
